Attractive cities and surprising villages around..

Cities like Goes, Middelburg, Vlissingen, Veere and Zierikzee are interesting places with a rich history, lovely terrasses and a delightful shopping area. You will find besides he usual national chain stores a number of fun and original boutiques. Also the Belgium places Antwerpen, Gent and Brugge are not far away by tresspassing the Western Scheldt tunnel.
--Middelburg has many historical buildings and is worth a visit. Visit the tower of the Abbey. It is a serious climb of more than 90 metres, but the breathtaking view over Walcheren is definitely worth it. The Abbey houses also a famous collection of tapersty wall hangings. And; Middelburg has many antique shops!!
-- Flushing (Vlissingen) is well known because of its boulevard. Amaze yourself as you see the big boats pass by. There is an old harbour and outside the city a new large very modern harbour.
It is one of the spots were allied forces came on land during the Second World War. You can visit the casemates (1811) which are situated in the heart of the old Flushing fortifications of 1548, were once Karel V and  Napoleon walked around. Here a garrison bakery of Napoleon has remained intact. Once
every twenty-four hours 4800 loaves were baked here.
-- In Zierikzee: you need to stroll along the old fishermens' harbour, the city walls and the old inner center. Interesting are a.o. the gothic Gravensteen (and the Maritiem Museum Zierikzee located in it), the townhall (with the municipal museum in it) and the Monstertoren. This city counts more than 500 monuments!
Veere: the complete harbour and trading town is actually a living open-air museum, very interesting are a.o. the old harbour, the 16th century Grote Kerk (Large Church) and the 15th century Town Hall with museum De Vierschaar located in it, the Scottisch houses. A must see!
-- Wemeldinge ist the oldes village of Zuid-Beveland. The nostalgic little house where the water levels were once gauged and the bridges over the locks remind us of a time when Wemeldinge was a flourishing center for inland shipping. To protect themselves against high floods habitants built "vlietbergen": refuge mounds. One is still there and is with its 12 metres the highest of Zeeland.
-- Nisse is one of the most beautiful villages in Zeeland. Originally it was a village that formed round the church. However, the ring has since merged with the big village square. An ancient cattle drinking place or "vaete" lies at its edge.
- Mini Mundi: in Middelburg shows you Zeeland in miniature.
